Significant, interesting or just plain insane, here are ten cars that caught our eye at the two thousand seventeen Geneva Motor Showcase.

Expect the same excellent rail and treating found in previous models but with a gratefully modern interior.

An all-new flagship for the Surrey-based supercar manufacturer. The 720S features a twin-turbocharged Four.0-litre V8 engine putting out 710bhp (the 720PS of the name). The engine is slung in a carbon fibre chassis, itself packaged in a carbon fibre bodyshell, meaning the car weighs less than 1.Five tonnes. 0-62mph is done with in Two.9 seconds and McLaren say the £208,600 720S will reach 212mph.

Nissan’s segment-leading crossover has had a facelift and a fountain of fresh tech chucked at it. The styling gives it a sharper, more mature look while fresh equipment includes Nissan’s ProPilot semi-autonomous driving system. Significant because the Qashqai helped create the crossover genre and Nissan is keen to string up on to its crown in the face of increasingly strong competition.

A far more memorable moniker than the project’s codename AM-RB001, the covers are officially off Aston’s technical tie-up with Crimson Bull’s F1 engineers. Looking like pretty much nothing else on the roads, the carbon fibre Valkyrie is powered by a naturally aspirated V12 engine and Aston Martin claim it will suggest spectacle in line with the current crop of LMP1 Le Boy’s sports prototype racers. Technical details are still sketchy but with the combined brilliance of Aston and Adrian Newey’s team spectacle will undoubtedly be astonishing.

Another one to file under significant. Volvo’s mid-sized SUV is all-new and based on the SPA platform used by the ninety class cars. That’s not the only familiar thing, with the interior very influenced by the clean, ordinary lines of its fatter brothers. With the XC40 due to be unveiled later this year as well, the XC60 heralds the 2nd stage in Volvo’s plans to take an ever fatter bite of the SUV pie and if it’s anywhere near as good as the ninety cars there’s a good chance it’ll succeed.

A case of doing what it says on the tin, this is the latest range-topper from Maranello. With a entirely fresh V12 developed specifically for it, the eight hundred twelve is, with the exception of a duo of limited editions, the fastest road-going Ferrari ever. The front-mounted 789bhp 6.5-litre engine shoves the eight hundred twelve to 62mph in just Two.9 seconds on its way to 211mph. And it doesn’t look half bad either.

DS are proving they’re taking their brunt on the luxury market serious with this full-size SUV. Stunning looks are paired with a host of technical innovations, including semi-autonomous driving, and the option of a 296bhp plug-in hybrid drivetrain with four-wheel-drive.

249bhp and 1,080kg are the headline figures for this stunning two-door coupe. A modern reinterpretation of the classic A110 Berlinette of the 1960s and 70s, Alpine claim the mid-engined A110 will hit 0-62mph in just Four.Five seconds and if it goes half as good as it looks the French rigid could be on to a winner. Priced around £50,000 expect to see it in showrooms early in 2018.

The sleek-looking Arteon is an all-new replacement for the CC “coupe-saloon”, designed to sit above the Passat at the top of the VW range. Alongside a spacious interior the “avant-garde gran tourismo” packs a host of fresh technologies, including driver assist systems such as the adaptive cornering headlights that use GPS and road data to react sooner. Six turbocharged drivetrains will suggest inbetween 148bhp and 276bhp when the car hits the roads later this year.

Another member of the Two.9-second 0-62mph club, this animal carries the most powerful Lambo V10 ever made. Putting out 631bhp and 442lb/ft the Huracan Performante is a more track-focused version of a car that was already impressively acute on the road.
