Suspect crashes stolen car in high-speed pursue, suffers major injuries

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – A man driving a stolen car crashed Sunday morning following a high-speed pursue that spanned two cities, Virginia State Police say.

According to police, a trooper attempted to stop a two thousand thirteen BMW around 7:30 a.m. on Interstate 64, near J. Clyde Morris Boulevard. The car was reportedly going ninety two mph.

The driver did not stop, and continued east on I-64, reaching speeds of over one hundred fifteen mph, state police say. The trooper found that the car the suspect was driving had been stolen out of Richmond.

Police say the driver exited the highway in Hampton, where he crashed into a parked van at Crowne Plaza Hotel. No one was in the van at the time of the crash.

The driver, 18-year-old Diondre Rayquan Fears, of Virginia Beach, was trapped inwards the car and suffered major injuries in the crash.

Pictures from the accident scene demonstrated a white vehicle overturned on its roof.

Fears was taken to Riverside Hospital. Police say he will be charged when he is released.
