Police have told Pirate FM a pensioner is stable in hospital after a car plunged 60ft off a Cornish cliff.

The elderly man from Bodmin was airlifted to Derriford after firefighters managed to cut him free.

It is believed the vehicle accidentally reversed at Fresh Polzeath.

Officers got the call on Monday afternoon, along with Coastguard rescuers and the lifeboat from Rock.

Joe Comebellack was there and tells ITV News Westcountry it all happened so rapid.

He said: “I think he was most likely parking up because he had to pick his wifey up. Then he must have slipped reversing and went straight over.

“I heard a massive bang so I looked over. Next minute, I spotted two people hop out of the way and he’s just gone right over the edge of the cliff”.

They were at the scene along with Coastguard rescuers and the Rock lifeboat.
