Cops arrest four for numerous thefts in North Hills

Police arrested four people Wednesday in connection with a string of car thefts in several North Hills communities.

Three of the four are juveniles.

Allegheny County Police, along with O’Hara Police, investigating several stolen vehicles and numerous thefts from vehicles in the township. At approximately Two:30 a.m. on Tuesday, two vehicles were stolen from an O’Hara home.

Later Tuesday morning, O’Hara police encountered four masculines in the GetGo on Freeport Road. The two stolen vehicles, along with a third vehicle previously stolen in Ross, were in the parking lot. When police approached, the masculines fled in two of the vehicles, leaving the one vehicle in the lot.

While fleeing, one vehicle struck a security vehicle at the Waterworks Mall and the suspects abandoned it and all four escaped in the remaining stolen vehicle.

At about four a.m. Wednesday, O’Hara police arrested Markazz Smithson, Eighteen, no address available sitting in an allegedly stolen car. County police said

Smithson had accompanied the juveniles to the area steal from vehicles.

Indiana Township Police then received a report at about six a.m. of a fight on Saxonburg Boulevard and discovered the juveniles with a vehicle stolen from Harmar Township. The three juveniles fled, were apprehended with the assistance of numerous police departments from the area.

“They had nowhere to go,” Indiana Police Detective Sgt. Tim Michael said.

Harmar police Chief Jason Domaratz said the car was stolen from a residence in the Chapel Downs neighborhood. The car was unlocked with the keys inwards. Police arrested one person at about three a.m. after neighbors reported someone prowling.

Smithson and the three juveniles were transported to Allegheny County Police Headquarters for questioning. Charges are expected to be filed against Smithson this evening, and are pending against the juveniles.
