Sevin Vacilchuk said he heard the roar of a truck racing up Southeast Royal Hills Drive as they were walking to church, he said through an interpreter.
Vacilchuk said they observed the 20-year-old driver lose control of the vehicle, hopping the curb and landing in a ravine.
“And they think it was like seventy to one hundred miles per hour,” Vacilchuk said. “They just went off the hill into the ditch.”
“They witnessed the car was rolling over,” the interpreter said. “And when it stopped, it commenced smoking, so they called the police.”
The accident happened a stone’s throw from the Shadow Hawk gated community. The Royal Hills Apartment Sophisticated is also nearby. Renton police say they know the driver was driving too quick but they don’t know how rapid.
Robert Radcliff said he has observed many vehicles going too quick up and down this particular road.
“They’re in control most of the time,” he said. “I’ve never seen them not be in control coming up the hill at a high speed.”
A neighbor sent pictures of an accident in April that was also blamed on speed. Now, just three months later in almost the same spot, a brother and sister are dead.
“People frequently speed on this road. And I’m not sure why, but people go very prompt on this road often,” neighbor Sara Emerson said.
Neighbors say they have asked the city to install speed bumps to attempt to slow down speeding drivers, but the city has not responded to their complaints.
The identity of the siblings who died could be released early next week.
