BMW Philippines launches the two thousand eighteen Five Series

Months after its global expose, the seventh-generation BMW five Series has landed on our shores. The two thousand eighteen Five Series ushers in tech derived from the flagship seven Series, as well as the marque’s fresh styling direction inwards and out.
The fresh exterior goes after the form of the seven Series with its large signature kidney grill which sees the headlights connected to them. Complementing the bolder front fascia is a broader lower air intake, along with defined creases on the rubber hood. Standard in the all-new five Series are the LED Adaptive lights, an option unavailable in the previous local-spec model. Three variants will be available upon launch. The range starts with the 520d Luxury and moves up to the 520d M Sport. Topping the range is the lone six-cylinder suggesting with the 530d Luxury.
This fresh five Series also boasts an extended wheelbase with shorter overhangs and more room inwards. Also switched is the roofline which more curved compared to the outgoing model. Three character lines define the side profile of the all-new five Series. The very first character line is seen at the lower half of the doors while the 2nd runs through the door treats to the tail lights. The third starts from the top, into the signature Hoffmeister kink and merges into the 2nd character line. At the rear, a sleeker version of the L-Shaped tail lights make an appearance which then flows into the license place holder.
More seven Series cues can be seen inwards. From the driver’s point of view, present are trapezoidal air-conditioning vents, high-mounted iDrive screen, redesigned gear selector and the hexagonal center console. Like most BMWs, the center console is tilted towards the driver, a signature of the German automaker. Software also gets a significant upgrade as the two thousand eighteen Five Series gets iDrive 6.0.
For iDrive 6.0, it now has a fresh interface which boasts of high-definition graphics, as well as a quicker processor. Also fresh to the this model is the touch-screen function, providing the owners more functionality options when accessing iDrive. With three variants to choose from, each model gets their own interior treatments. The entry-level 520d and 530d get more luxurious appointments and trim while the M-Sport goes for a driver-focused treatment.
Powering both 520d models is the fresh four-cylinder, Two.0-liter, TwinPower Turbo diesel engine. Output is rated at one hundred ninety PS and four hundred Nm of torque. For the 530d, it gets the Trio.0-liter inline-six diesel, also with TwinPower Turbo tech. With two more cylinders, it produces two hundred sixty five PS and a whopping six hundred twenty Nm of torque. Like all BMW models, it shifts via an eight-speed automatic transmission with manual control which BMW calls Steptronic. Sticking to tradition, the two thousand eighteen BMW five Series is rear-wheel drive and comes with a slew of active and passive safety systems.
